Hey everyone, I know I posted an earlier thread about which exhaust I should get but now I REALLY need your guys help in deciding which exhaust to purchase. Cuz the more I read into about the each exhaust the more indecisive I get. Right now I drive a 96 Civic EX AT coupe with stock everything. I'm going for performance rather than sound and looks. Also, going for more horsepower and torque in the lower to mid range RPMs. ( I barely push my car to 6-8RPM) I'm currently looking at the Apexi N1, Greddy Evo, and Thermal Stealth. Is the Stealth a full cat-back exhaust.......if not do they make one? I've heard/read good and bad things about each one, although less with the Thermal for some reason. APEXI......geared more for high end power but have read that people definitely feel the pull and low end power. GREDDY......read it has overall bandwidth power gains. THERMAL.......stealth is geared for low to mid range power but dunno how of a power gain. Right now, I'm leaning towards the Apexi exhaust mainly cuz I've heard a lot more better things about it especially with the power gains plus my friend just got one and I definitely feel the HP gains at start up. BUT I'm still iffy about it, so advice from guys that are already using these exhausts would be GREATLY appreciated. I'd like to get as many opinions as possible to help me decide on which exhaust to buy. Thanks dudes.

Well, your definitely not gonna "feel" any horsepower gains with just exhaust. But, I would go with the thermal.

I have a Greddy Evo on my Si and it's pretty nice. Like SRHguru said, you're really not going to notice much with just an exhaust on your Civic. If I had another opportunity to buy an exhaust for my car, it would either be the Thermal R&D or Greddy Evo.

i believe so, but if you dont want it from the cat back then you could just buy the rear section which is the muffler tip and like a foot of pipe and get about the same sound.
www.importhorizon.com and check out their thermal r&d |

If you have an EX, SI, VTEC, or other top end Honda model keep the stock muffler and put a 2 1/4 pipe from the Catalytic Converter to the muffler. Get a new piece to fit from the 2 1/4 pipe to the muffler too. This removes the 1 1/4 pipe and the very restrictive Resonator. Get rid of the Resonater is the key to a Honda exaust. Leave the CAT or you will lose backpressure which you need, espicially for turbo. Gutting the CAT results in a Catalytic Rattle that is very annoying and heard between 3 - 8 k RPM's. Make a quiet custom stock exaust and you car will chirp 2nd gear even nastier; besides you'll be able to hear the intake. 2 1/4 saves gas and gets better mileage. Spending money on a loud bomb is not worth it. It adds no speed, unless it's a 1995 Saturn SC2. If that's the case go with RS Racing. But if it's for a HONDA Remove the resonator and stick with the stock muffler. Turbo requires 3 inch...........

Putting a loud exaust bomb on an automatic civic ex is not going to sound nice at all.......And we all know how automatic civic owners with exausts always miss the shift and hit the rev limiter........So if you want that Loud Automatic Shift to be heard and everyone to laugh at you put a bomb.
If you want performance my recomendation is to remove the resonater and put 2 1/4 piping to the stock ex muffler. The you have an Exaust with no noise. That way you'll be a little faster with no loud Automatic shifts.Automatic Civics get laughed at when they have Loud Exausts with auto......and Automatic Honda trannies go out when they're dogged.......espically if the owner doesn't flush it out often |
