what spoiler to get?.....for aerodynamics.

I want to get a better spoiler than the one on my 85 gt, but I haven't seen anybody get put an aluminum spoiler on their ride so I could have some ideas. I was thinking about a roof spoiler or a drag spoiler or even a very short ricer spoiler. This IS NOT for looks only I drive my fiero 100+ on a regular basis. I am considering canards and bumper wings for some added down force.

Any ideas would help. I don't want a ricey fiero just wanna add some downforce.

Your gonna need more in the front then in the back. I know of 2 Fieros, one a blown 3.8 and the other a 350 sb, that at high speeds start to lift the front end off the ground making for unresponsive, unpredictable steering and one hell of a scary ride. Start looking at chin spoilers first or you could end up doing 100mph wheelies.

Why is it I see so many "Proud to be an American" bumper stickers on the backs of cars made in Japan or Korea??????

Re: what spoiler to get?.....for aerodynamics.

I agree with Ragtop. I read an article about the downforce of the front end a while back and don't remember where it's at. But anyway it gave the example of going 100+ mph and seeing one or both of the headlight covers fly up. I've had this happen a couple times at about 115-120. If you've ever felt the spring tension on those covers you'd understand how hard the wind would have to be pushing upwards on them. But by putting a vent in the hood to let the air go out, there is less force pushing the front of the car up. In the article the guy said after he put the vent in, at high speed it felt like a 300lb. fat lady sat on the hood....i personally wouldn't care to see that, but you get the picture. As far as the wing in the back???? I can't understand why you would need anything other than stock. You have to remember if you are having all this air pushing on your car you are going to need more power from the engine to overcome it. Adding one of those aluminum wings is like putting 300 lbs. of sandbags in your trunk at 120mph.

Re: what spoiler to get?.....for aerodynamics.

I did plan on putting some canards and bumper wings on the front and i am going to drop it like 1-1.5 inches. I currently have a gt front bumper. Where can I find the chin bumper you are talking about?

The fibersmith has them at a reasonable price. http://www.fibersmith.net/fiero.htm

Any supplier of pro street drag racing aerodynamic components will have them as well, but they aren't fiero specific, so you'd have to bolt them on and glass them in.

Yeah you ain't lie'n that is reasonable. I will get the chin spoiler, along with the poly cradle bushings, and kyb gas a just in the front and gr2s in the back.

Now what are the cheapest yet best quality springs that only drop it about 1inch?

The Eibach set looks pretty good, it's a good name and still cheaper then what a dealer would charge for a stock set. You may want to shop around to see if anyone will beat that price, there's places that will guarantee a price 10% less then the competition.

**There are some bugs that come with lowering ride height, chances are your gonna need a custom alignment by a shop that goes beyond every day by-the-book repairs.

Re: what spoiler to get?.....for aerodynamics.

Yes, you definitely should get an alignment done....and the Pontiac dealership here is the same price as anyone else, and personally, I'd rather them do it. I bought my springs through JC Whitney, I got the Suspension Technique springs for just under 200 bucks. Along with the KYB Suspension Kit #1 from the Fierostore...which came with the rear swaybar. It's an excellent setup, but will lower the car a little more than an inch like you are looking for...it's actually about an inch and a half. I've heard the Eibach's lower the car only 3/4 inch...but that may just be hearsay.

I was thinking about going with the QA1 variable rate springs. They are $55 each out of jeg's. Not sure if I should get the 10" or 12".

I have adjustable coilover sleeves that were for my honda that will fit any shock and spring as long as the spring is 2.5" wide. Is this a good idea so that I can use long springs and still have a lowered look?

What are the spring rates of stock fiero springs?

Does anybody know the height of the stock springs?

Will I need a caster/camber kit for 1 inch drop?
