Exclamation Just got a new [video] camera, what are some good movie making software packages?

I have to make a music video for my uni project due November 1, I have pinned down quite a few Ideas, and I want to be able to flim the video (sound doesn't matter) and cut it up, and paste it at appropriate times intime with the song I wrote for it

What is the BEST program to do it?
I want to be able to put the parts on the computer, and edit it (cut shorter etc) just like a song in it's WAVE format, and on top of that, I'll need to put the song over the top of it, (or rather, the movie over the song)

Help guyz!

Doesn't your Uni have programs that you can use? Otherwise, the absolute best will be far, far out of the reach of a college student's budget.

If you just want to cut and edit a movie and slap a song in there, just about any movie making software will work just fine. Hell, Windows Movie Maker will work.

He's right. Look for a media lab with software installed.

Even something as simple as I-Movie or windows equivelent can make a damn good video with almost no learning curve.

Or check the price of a student version of Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro. They will probably be a few hundred dollars, but that's less than retail. These programs will take some practice to learn.

Fuck Windows Movie Maker off as a joke.

I started working with it last night, and it worked really well, but then I tried to add some segments of some war clips in today, and I get NOTHING but constant freezing
a 2 second operation can take as long as 5 minutes
The lag is horrable
and the timeline freezes, and I can't stop the music, but the clip freezes.
This is the WORST program this shitty computer has ever has the misfortune of having installed on its system

4 resets, and 120+ program closes later, still, this shitty program refuses to respond. I hate it with a passion now, and do NOT reccomend this to anyone who has a temper span of less than 45 minutes.
I'm looking for I-Movie, and Adobe Premier, and Final Cut Pro
Just SOMETHING not made by WINDOWS.

I wasn't aware Windows was a software producing company?

I just can't believe your Uni doesn't have any software. Even my high school had Avid Xpress. Well, I guess you got all of the suggestions you needed.
