92 wacky exhaust?

i was planning on replacing my exhaust in the future, ans i just looked unfer the car today and noticed that the exhaust setup is really odd, like the pipe goes into the side of the muffler, if anyone of you have setup a aftermarket exhaust can you tell me how to put on your exhaust without the muffler being in the middle of the car, btw i have a 92 2.2 5spd

Normally mufflers for 3rd gen Camrys are in the rear with a very short exhaust pipe. What's wrong with that?

yeah, but its just that the exhaust pipe go into the side of the muffler, and not behind it like most cars
