98 MC Right Turn Signal Comes on with headlights, anyone know whats going on?

everytime my head lights come on so does my right turn signal, it doesnt blink, the green arrow in the car just stays on even when i put the left turn signal on, which works fine all the time. Also when the head lights are on and i try to put on the 4 ways both signals come on and stay on solid. I've already replaced the turn signal switch and that didn't help. I'm thinking it's a ground problem but not sure where to start looking for that. Also I think I have a leak somewhere becease my front drivers side floor is always soaked after it rains, noone can seem to figure out where the water is coming from. I'd appriciate any ideas you guys may have. Thanks in advance.

Dont know if this will help but-- My 98 monte headlights were pretty skrewy. my headlight would blink and flicker on and off even with new bulbs. eventually one of them went out, then my other headlamp high beam stopped working. I ripped both headlamp assemblies out and traced the wiring back. The blinker and headlight wires for both passenger and driver side assemblies will trace back a little ways behind the passenger side headlamp. I found that the factory connections behind the passenger side headlamp were comming loose and correded and rusted pretty bad. I cut all of them off and reconnected them, put everything back together, and that fixed EVERYTHING! -- Hope this will help. - Matt

thanks, but I've already checked all the wiring in the front and read lights on the right side of the car when I was looking for my ground problem so I don't think thats the problem

do your daytime running lights work?? If not, check the fuse for the DRL module. The water on the passenger side is probably a clogged drain for the evap core, as long as it doesn't smell like antifreeze. If it smells like coolant, you have a leaking heater core.

my day time running lights work fine, I just checked all the fuses on the side of the dash and the ones under the hood as well, none are blown.

When the signal light stays on, it means you have a defective bulb returing the wrong (or too much) resistance.. Change the signal bulbs for that side of the car. This includes the marker lights. Thats the only reason.. Side marker lights, or parking lights. There is no other reason for this other then wiring problems wich is VERY rare to only be causing this problem.

It can't be a bad bulb or it would happen all the time and the bulbs are fully functional when the parking lights arent on

The only thing on GM cars that is going to make that inside light stay on, is the bulbs or wiring to them. Call a dealer and the first thing your gonna hear is, "are any lights out?"

I figured out that it has nothing to do with the head lights, its the parking lights or the lights in the dash board. When the lights come on at night if you turn the headlight/parking light knob right in between off and the p the head lights stay on and the dash and parking lights go out and both turn signals work, this just keeps getting weirder

Ok, so if the knob to dim the interior lights is stuck all the way at the end before it clicks, between clicks beacuse you dont have it ON or OFF..
The potentiometer has no voltage in it to regulate the brightness of the lights, so theres no power to them.

Re: 98 MC Right Turn Signal Comes on with headlights, anyone know whats going on?

Im not talking down to you, im trying to understand the problem in detail. I only have 1 knob that controls my headlights/parkinglights/interior lights/dashdimmer..
I pull it to turn parking/head lights.. And turn it to dim lights on dash, or to turn interior lights on.

Was the switch pulled not enough, or turned not enough to create the situation?

Any by the way, your electronic ability means nothing here.. Just like getting an A+ cert means nothing.

ok in my car there are 2 knobs, one to turn the headlights/parking lights on and off and one to dim them, thats what im trying to tell you. the dimmer has no effect on the turn signal on the parking lights

Re: 98 MC Right Turn Signal Comes on with headlights, anyone know whats going on?

ok, things just got even weirder, now during the day when the right turn signal works when i put it on all the lights in the dash board blink with it as well as the left turn signal, but its not blinking as bright as when i turn it on, im guessing i should tear the dash apart and look for something in there, any other suggestions?
