Interior lights (beyond wd40)

Ok, I really need someone who knows the interior light circuit in these windstars.

My wife drives a 98 and last year we had the infamous interior light stuck on with the door ajar light on the dash too. The WD40 trick worked great. Now the problem has come back.

WD40 did not work this time and I gave ALL doors a good blast and a ton of opens and closes. I cleaned all metal contacts. I removed the rear door panal and jumpered out both rear latches.

On the side sliding door, I took out the gizmo with the 4 buttons mounted in the door, checked for continuity with a multimeter between the button ends and their spade terminals. (all good) The buttons on the frame of the van where the door makes contact too, I used a multimeter. Found on the top 3, continuity to ground and the bottom one had system voltage on it.

I temperarily pulled the fuse for the lights, but unfortunatly my wife stated that the power windoes will no longer work.

Anything else I can look into?

Re: Interior lights (beyond wd40)

What about the back side of the sliding door? I've been down this same road with our '98 and then figured out that there's a switch/sensor thing on the other side or the door opening. Right, so if the 4 button gizmo thing is on the right of the door opening when looking at it, you need to get the left side of the opening too. harder to get at, but that was my problem.

Re: Interior lights (beyond wd40)

I was told by Ford to try the WD 40 in the back latchs and it worked well after repeated soaking and opening and closing of the rear hatch door. I was also told to clean the contacts that you mentioned with a rubber hockey puck, used like an eraser and scrub the flat contacts on the pillar/post. No problems since! Good luck.
