So We Finally Got A GN Thread Of Our Own

Well I'm sure glad to see this new GN thread. Some of you might have seen a few of my post's in the Regal thread or over Jeep Cheerokee or Hundai Tiberon way.

So word up on Gn's...Cool.

My GN is a 1986 and I bought it new. I have used it as a daily driver up untill a few years ago when I put it in the barn. It needed a lot of work so I bought a rice rocket for the commute thing.

Well Im tired of making payments on the stupid hyundai so I'm turning it in.

Back to the GN.

Just bought a new MAF, Plug's, Plug wires, O2 sensor, Boost controller, PCV valve, Hoses /Belt, Trans filter, Air filter, oil and fuel filter, fuel pump, front pads, calipers, rotors, wheel cylinders, shoes, drums, brake hardware kit, mastercylinder, powermaster pump, switch, accumulator.

That should get the old girl back on the road. Don't worry I wont forget to clean out the intercooler, and flush the cooling system.

Needs Paint, carpet, and the front seats re-covered. Remember daily driver and all that. All those good years and 74,000 miles of kids, dogs, grocerys, etc, etc, and I never sold it.

Saving up for tires, regestration, insurance and she's back on the road.

In a couple of months she'll get paint and upolstery.

I sure will feel good to get "Back In The Saddle Again."

I'll keep ya'all posted of the "Old Girls" progress.

Glad we got our own thread finally.

Re: So We Finally Got A GN Thread Of Our Own

I like to think i'm pretty inclined to the Turbo Buicks, meaning i have a good deal of knowledge about them. Not nearly as much knowledge as you owners mind you. I know all there is to know about the LeSabre T-Type....

Honestly, i think my T-Type is the most comfortable car i have ever ridden in, and it handles like an AWD. It's also got some surprising balls, can't underestimate the GM series1 3.8 liter. <<<<Biased opinion

Well it's not RWD sadly, it's only FWD. Which is another reason why it's naturally aspirated, the engineers didn't trust the transmission for the turbocharger they had initially planned to use. As far as the motor goes N/A, it's not bad 165 HP 210 Ft. Lbs. Supposedly mid to high 15's stock. The suspension package was labeled WE2, which was basically the suspension of its day and the car retailed around $18-$19K with the T-Type package. www.lesabret.com is a good resource for these cars.

Anyway, this new forum will probably bring a lot more people to the Buick forums(hopefully)

Re: So We Finally Got A GN Thread Of Our Own

Don't get confused, the GN (McClaren) engine only appeared in the GN, the Regal Turbo Ts, the GNX, and the '89 TTA. There is a lot of really bad miss-information floating around out there that would have been laughed off in the late '80s.

If you want the ["McClaren"] GN (and that's what they really were, but not called that), get one of the cars I mentioned, or you will be sadly disappointed. eBay is a good source for [potentially] very reasonably priced "Grand National" type cars. You can readily build on what they have posted (just be "wise" in your bidding").

One more point to remember - "ATK" engines still offers long block rebuilt GN engines for in the neighborhood of $1400. You can't beat their quality and pricing - at least from my experience!

One last point: There are a few cars that readily out perform "stock" GNs today. The thing to remember is exactly what HyPSI87 wrote (paraphrased): for measly bucks you can turn a "stock" GN into a real MONSTER! - $1300 by his calculations, something very similar by my calcs.

If you want to run in the mid to low 12s to high 11s, I don't think you can do it less expensively than in an 16 or 17 year old GN...

Best To All,

Chuck

i found out to late that u can take a stock motor just as for as anything else u can throw at it. i mean a few minor parts like fuel regulator an some bigger injectors an u are set to go. i went ahead an listened to the wrong people an bought alot of the "BIG" parts such as a new turbo (TE-44) an 42.5# injectors an GN110 cam. all this is good for a race car an is ok for the street but i could of just as easily achived my goal of some 12-11 second goal with half these parts. thats what i get for not reaserching hard enough.
