Vibration/Shaking

I just love these forums--so glad I have found one for my car.

I have a 91 Grand Am, 80K miles. I love this car, but if I can't find the fix for it my husband says it goes to the trash. When idling my car shakes--I don't mean just a little vibration either--it shakes and has died a couple of times. If I put the car into N or P it stops shaking, only happens when in gear. Does not make any difference if A/C is on or off. Have changed the engine mounts, had the tranny checked. I need some suggestions on where else to look. I love my car and do not want to get rid of it. Thanks in advance for any advice given. Nuts

Re: Vibration/Shaking

My girlfriend had a similar problem with her 2000. I changed the fuel filter and so far it has seemed to stop. She had other problems with it stalling but it would shake as you mentioned and that too went away. Good luck hope it works for you too.

Seems like you need either motor mounts or your throttle body needs cleaning.

I would have your fuel system checked, Fuel pump, fuel injector fuel filter and definetly have the throttle body cleaned, also check your air filter if it hasn't been replaced recently it could cause the same thing...
