It's an decent car. I have driven the GLS and I have the GT....For a little more you get a lot more features and creature comforts. Opinions really vary on this car...as do most cars I have been in discussions about. I know several people with Elantras...including 4 neighbors...And we all seem to agree it was a decent buy....Now resale value is very poor...Just need to get that right out in the open. Fuel economy is not as good as the posted numbers were originally disclosed at (This info has been changed on the info brochures). Of course fuel economy is directly proportional to how heavy your right foot is. I have been able to achieve a little over 35mpg...on back country roads doing between 60-70mph...but when I hit the tollway...traffic moves at 80-85mph...If I use the tollway I average between 29-32mpg. The Elantra is notorious for rattling door panels...the dealer installed sound proofing material between the door and panel and fixed this for me. I haven't had the wheel balance or airbag OCS sensor problem that some others have reported. I have had some minor issues but all were resolved by the dealer and in terms of annoyances I have had other cars the ticked me off far more than this Elantra. Operating costs are low, but I did notice my insurance costs went up $35 a month from my much faster previous car...

Hope this helps,
Jason

Thank You for the fast reply.
One question what year is the car you are talking about.
I undersatnd from other reports that there is no rattles.
But hey they could just be hiping the car.

Thank you again.

I have a 2004 Elantra GT...I didn't have any rattles until around the 7,000-8,000 mile timeframe...The long stretch of tollway I travel every day was completely resurfaced this last summer so pot holes aren't a contributor in my situation. Check out some other forums/Elantra websites like the elantragtclub site. They do report this issue and the gtclub site even gives DIY instructions on how to remove the door panel to fix...The author of this site chose to use foam weather stripping but there are several recommended fixes for this.

Who told you no rattles? The dealer?...

I just point this one out cause I hate rattles/squeaks. On the other hand, a Pontiac I owned years back really gave new meaning to the term...rattle.

Good luck and hope this was helpful.
