air conditioning warm???

Ok, I don't know anything about air conditioning. But I was wondering if somebody could give me some tips on what I can do to make it cold again. I filled up my low side to the recommended freon pressure (using 134a freon). I bought a hose that has a pressure gauge on it so I know it is perfect. When I stop for long periods, I have the water puddle under my car which tells me the air is working. But still it is just blasting out hot air. Finally today I just opened up my windows because it was cooler than the air that was coming out of the vents. My mom had a similar problem and she took it to a tech and they cleaned out some filter that made hers work good. (I don't even know where the filter is that they cleaned.) What are some things that you would look for that would make my air work better?

Thank You,

David

It could be an actuator not working your blend box.
Try changing the air flow to defrost or floor.

Re: air conditioning warm???

Some cars take anywhere from up to 2.5 to 3 lbs. of freon.
Do not over charge the system & don't take it to a 10 minute oil change place! Oil must be in the compressor, as well as the pressure switch could not be letting the compressor run. This system is like no other you really need a ASE Tech that understands the hi & low pressures on the gauges. You may need an O'ring or you could have a leak in a hose or @ the compressor shaft seal. Also there is a oriface tube & receiver dryer, condensor, So its worth to FIND an AC shop. (yellow pages)

Re: air conditioning warm???

Well, my car was acting up and making loud grinding noises that started about when the air went out. I didn't put 2 and 2 together. Then the air conditioning's compressor's pulley froze up and my car died. I had to have a new compressor installed. But the sad thing is my car is now leaking gas. I am sure it is nothing to do with the air. Just a pure quincidence. I think it is related to the recall. But I'm not driving it. I'll know once I start driving it normally again if the air works. I had the compressor installed at a local shop and it sounds like they do quite a few. So it should be working now.

Try the reset method.

Pull the battery leads and let the car sit for about 20-30 minutes. Re-attache the leads on the battery and test. In most cases this will solve the problem with funky A/C operations.

I read this fix about three years ago on another forum and it fixed this very issue.

For those of you that have warm air coming out of the passanger side A/C. If this fix does not work, you need to ad Freon to the system. Generally a few pounds over what the recommended amount is. For some reason higher pressure is required to make the system work properly. The cheapest place for a freon and hose kit is Walmart. About $20.00.

Now if I could only get somone to answer my previous electrical question.

Flow Door

I don't know if I have the term right, but mine did the same thing and the only problem was that there was a flow regulator door that had gotten stuck closed. I would turn on the ac and the passenger would have nice cool air while I sat and got baked. bad news, they had to take apart the dash to get to it.

Had problem with my 97 on the way back from a 5 hour ride on our holidays this summer. Half way back it started to blow warm air from all the vents. Had to have the clutch replaced on mine. ($175.00 out of my pocket price in Canadian) Mechanic said it was a common problem.
