cam questions (OBX)

I have been looking on ebay and im sure most have you have seen the obx camshafts.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...921720085&rd=1

Looks like a deal too good to be true..but i dono. has anyone seen any reviews or dyno sheets on them? I know they are relativly new and i wouldnt want my car to be the guinny pig lol. Also, it says valvtrain upgrade required. The previous owner of my car said the car has skunk2 valve springs and retainers (because he had crower cams in it) but i dont know if i believe him. how would i be able to tell if they were regular stock springs and retainers or skunk2? I dont really know how to read the duration and lift stuff or what it really means but is it an agressive cam? is it nearly the equivalent of skunk 2 stage 2's?

Re: cam questions (OBX)

These are the SAME spec as the skunk2 (same in everyway) on of my friends got Stage1 SOHC one for his car and it's good quality and works great, I personaly have a set of DOHC vtec Stage2 on the way.

well idk if you guys heard about the lsd that obx makes now. looks like a quaife for about $350. everyone says it will break and its no good. but someone making 600whp used it as his daily driver and at the track on slick and the lsd held up fine and is still going. so maybe obx is changing. i would trust these cams just because of the lsd

Heres some food for thought, every camshaft blank comes from one of two manufactures in the US (at least every blank that is ground here, ie crane, crower, obx ect.)

So the only large difference is going to be the grind on the cams... and just like OBX is contracting out for the diff, the same is likely for the cam... ya know just like zex and crower cams are identical...

They might be identical but that doesn't mean its made out of the same material i believe. So if obx sells them that cheap and IF its made the same material as skunk2, skunk2 would be out of business if you think about it.

Re: cam questions (OBX)

Do you really think i costs skunk 300 bucks to make a cam??? It may cost them 50, but most likely not even that much... dealers can get the cams for about 300 from the companies, and then they mark it up to like 500-600 dollars. Where the price is coming from is the R&D it takes to build a good cam.

But with what OBX is doing, taking some one elses design then eliminates that cost. In buying into this we may be shooting ourselves in the foot. I mean if Skunk or Toda and all of them no longer see any gains, do you think they are going to be able to build new and better cams, while keeping the business a float? That is the problem i can forsee...

Or it just may go the way of them big ol' merican cars and you'll be able to pick up a great cam for 100 bucks... Well you can already do that with delta, but that is a regrind.

Any way it'll be interesting to see what kind of changes this causes.
