Transmition problem

I have a 1995 dodge stealth

It does not go into reverse, and in drive it shifts from 1st to 2nd at about 30mph goes into high gear then falls out like being in neutral. No high gear. I'm not sure what the problem may be at this moment of time and would like your guys assistance. This is also my first post as well, so hi and thank you in advance.

Re: Transmition problem

I used to have that problem in my 87 ford tempo (no I don't own it anymore!) Your transmission is shot.

Re: Transmition problem

I had the same problem when i got a used transmission.. except i didnt have the problem with reverse... in od it would shift good 1-3 then when it went into 4th the rpm's would raise up and ,it was like nuetral ,then it would jump back to 3rd... it would only drive with the od off.. so i ended up putting a rebuilt transmission in mine

Probly some synchro's gone bad or something like that, you're most likely gonna need a new transmission, look around you can get a used one for $500. Otherwise you're looking into the $1000's to get it rebuilt or to buy a rebuilt one.

Re: Transmition problem

I'm guessing you have an auto, but I'd start looking for a new tranny. My friend has had 2 trannys do this on his Gran Prix, and both died.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: Transmition problem

Get it rebuilt, mine went out. I got a used manual $1200 and had it installed for about $400 at the beginning of the year. Now, it is very hard to get in reverse. I couldn't get the first one rebuilt cuz the "shell" or the outside of the trans was screwed up, but I can get this one rebuilt if any more problems out of it.
