New gears....now im slower....

With my 3.73's the car is about 3. tenths slower.... I have not ever had my car tuned or anything? Could it be related to that? I want to get LT1 edit eventually...Could it be that I need a stall to go with the gears? I am pretty bummed out about the whole thing so any info. would help....

your gears are to steep for what your working with. shoulda went with 3.42's. 3.73 gears are fun for the street, but when going down the track it's probly going into overdrive before you finish the run, which pulls your rpm's down too much.

you do several things: try making your runs in D instead of overdrive, mess with the camshaft and intake to widen your power band, change gears etc.

Re: New gears....now im slower....

if your car is an auto, it is probably due to the shift points. Once you get it tuned you should see a gain. Could also be TRACTION. check the 60' times and compare them. Whatever you drop in the 60' could be double the drop at the end of the track in the 1/4(if your 60' drops 1 second, expect a 2 second drop in ET. in your case, all you need to lose is .15 in the 60' to lose .3 at the end).

I thnk it is a combination of shift points/tuning and you not being familiar with the gears.

Re: New gears....now im slower....

koo. it seemed like it hooked pretty well though, and my 60 foot times are pretty much the same as before. i need to get a tune. Should I get it dyno tuned, or buy a hypertech or should I get LT1 edit

a tuning and shift point adjustment will definatly help, but i still say you have too much gear. i know because i've had 3.73's. they help launch and 0-60, but by the time you get to the end of the 1/4 your running pretty high rpm's. there's a certain rpm where you reach peak power, and beyond that you quit accelorating.

a dyno tune would probly be the best because they can simulate road conditions.

Re: New gears....now im slower....

otherwise stock car?? how many miles on tranny? if the tranny is getting pretty worn, the extra gear could be causing the clutch packs to slip, slowing your ET. the gears also do NOT like stock stall. so a higher stall converter would be a good idea to take advantage of them.

Re: New gears....now im slower....

Get your 2800 stall and put it in...then go to pcmforless.com and tell the guy what all you have done and what you want out of it. Don't worry about the dyno just yet, this guy will greatly surpass your expectations. And if you already bought the hypertech programmer, throw that in the trash, those are a waste of money. Pcmforless.com will send you a whole computer already tuned, just swap them and send your old one back. It is 300 bucks initially, but once he gets your core he refunds 100 of that plus you get free updates for 90 days I think.
