Must Mod Dad's Maxima

I was driving my dad to MIA(Miami International Airport) airport in his Maxima(96 SE). At around the Atlantic Avenue/Bulevard(whichever one is in Ft. Laderdale) i saw a new Camry, red/burgundy with body kit, Spoiler, and two GIANT fart cans that look like the ones my uncle has on his Supra(98 TT). Me and my Dad laugh at the site of the car, when he says "Burn that thing", i like "Really" he's like "Go ahead". So i speed up to it put it in neutral for a couple of seconds(auto) and rev. The engine is sweet. It's smooth with a beutiful tone (MOST TURBO!!!). The gy rolls down his silver tinted windows, it's a black kid with no shirt on. He nods his head forward and i smile while nodding back. I flash 3 fingers to give him the jist. I honk once and he getys it. i Honk 3 more times and stepon it. We were already doing about 50, and as soon as i gas it the maxima shifts to 3rd at 5500 rpms, i love this engine. By the time i get to 90 I have about 2 lenghths and i shut it down. He stays on it and "speeds" out into the distance.

I love my dads car, why couldn't my 240sx be like his Maxima? I want to mod badly, i think the V6 his car has is the non-turbo version of the engine that the 300zx and 350z use.

Nice run!

The '96 Maximas have the 3.0L V6 if i'm not mistaken, it's smaller then the 300ZX and the 350Z which are 3.5L V6 engines.

I actually prefer the 3.0L Maximas, especially the 2000. They have the look of the '03 (my favourite year) but they're a lighter car so they're alot more fun to toss around!

Re: Must Mod Dad's Maxima

Your dad's car has a VQ30DE (190HP), which is neither an NA 300ZX motor, which is a VG30DE (225HP), or a 350Z VQ35DE (287HP) motor.

It's kinda in-between both. Still has lots of potential though, as the 2000-2001 version of this motor (VQ30DE-K) made 222HP.

Nice kill.

Re: Must Mod Dad's Maxima

Nice. 95-99 Maximas are my favorite ones (especially with a five-speed manual). And the engine in there, the VQ30DE, has been on Ward's 10 Best Engines list every year it has been out (correct me if I'm wrong and it missed a year).

It doesn't have a VQ35...

Re: Must Mod Dad's Maxima

i had a 4th gen maxima(95-99) before i got my 2k2. they're the best looking max they ever made IMO and those cars make great sleepers. check out www.custommaxima.com and www.stillen.com. there's lots of potential hidden in those cars.
