If you really like the Jeep and want to buy it, You could try to work in an extended warranty into the sale if you are concerned with the harsh shifting. A tranny flush may also cure it. That is not a bad price for the amount of Jeep your looking at. Is it a Limited? V8?

the hard shifts are normal, I had mine in the shop numerous times (under extended warranty) for this problem. They finally programmed new shift codes and replaced solenoids and the computer. It seems to shift fine now. I would HIGHLY recomend an extended warranty, Mine has more than paid for it's self. It sounds like a pretty good price for the Jeep. If it's a dealership try haggling with them to get a better price if you buy a warranty.

Re: Buying a 99 gc transmission shifts hard

That price is ok if the dealership is willing to tack on at least a 1yr 12,000 mile powertrain warranty. I just bought a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 V8 for $11,900 with a 1yr warranty worked into the price. I went into the deal knowing Jeeps reputation for diff trouble and all wheel drive problems....Hence the warranty! Great winter vehicle though!
