Question black top, red top sr20det...any diff?

i see all these different motors on the internet being swappped into the 240sx, i was wanting to know if there was ANY difference between a sr20det red-top and a sr20det black-top... i know there is differences in the s13, s14, and s15...i know the s15 comes with a 6 speed....but i was wondering why a black top was so much more than a red top...i can get a black top sr20det full swap for 2500$......BUT, i can get a red top sr20det full swap for 1600...whats the difference?....any power differences?.....i was wondering this because im getting a 95 240sx shell, the whole car is there....just no motor...im getting a sr20det, i just need to know the difference between them before i buy...thanks

pick me i know this one. the only difference is when it was produced. same power same everything just the blacktop is a newer version and because of that it will mostly likely have less miles thus the price difference. from what i have read when they started going from the ca18 to sr20 they began putting the sr20det redtop into the 180sx and when they made the silvia they put the blacktop in the car. also, i believe they made a sr20det blacktop type x, which is the newest version of the s13 sr20det before they started making the s14.

Re: black top, red top sr20det...any diff?

correction: it was never called the type X. very good though zauber, you get a gold star, a cookie and 1st choice of toys during play time.

and eurobeaner...tsk tsk tsk, this is why we have an faq. now go sit in the timeout corner and read the faq. your question asking privilages are taken away untill you read all of the faq

1. faq
2. google
3. site that sell the engine and parts have stuff on them as well

www.srswap.com
has a faq that explains the engines

ok
S13 red/black same just blacks are newer than the reds same turbo and power
S14 T28 turbo rather than the T25 used by the older version i believe that some have VVT [variable valve timming]
S15 also uses the T28 turbo has a 6spd tranny, 250ps verses the 205 produced by the S13/S14 motors also a VVT engine

this is off the top of my head i don't feel like looking it up so correct me if im wrong anyone. ya it bothers me too when people ask questions like these where they could've found the answers themselves easier and faster surfing the net, but they'll never learn if you don't tell them.

oh ya be glad you didnt get the really mean people
[the toys he's making fun of them like they're in first grade or something]

i do believe that the S13 backtop SR20DET has a freer flowing head than its redtop counter part.

i don't believe i mentioned anything about the s14 specs. i just mentioned that they made a newer version of the blacktop before they began making the s14 motor. sorry if i wasn't clear. i been reading up on the sr models and rb models for a while now. can't say i know everything i just want to be able to know them well before i swap one. i want to be not just the driver of my car, but builder too. even though my brother will be doing my swap and building my motor i want to know how it is done and how to do it myself, but with his help.

Personally I'm going for a redtop just because as someone mentioned earlier I dont see a real problem with 10-15k miles difference when I could be paying like $900 less

I might change my mind, depending on my cash situation and what else I'm planning on doing to the car. The 6 speed tranny would always be nice though.

People seem confused, there's an S13 Black Top and an S14 Blacktop, 2 different engines, only the S14 one has VVT.

he didn't say that the type x didn't exist.

he said that the engine isn't called a type-X. the car is. there are actually 4 models. type G, type S, type R, type X. but everyone (mainly those who try to talk the talk and end up talking out of their ass cause they didn't do their research) thinks that the Type-X was all that existed. true, Type-X was top of the line, but that doesn't mean it's the only one. the Type-X and R were SR20DET, S and G were SR20DE.

sorry i got here so late. READ THE FUQQIN FAQ NEXT TIME!
