Have a 96 2500K with the 6.5L Turbo Diesel. The motor will not start, "wait to
start" light does not come on, but the fuel pump does pump-up. The blower fan will not come on when key is sent to run. Motor does not turn at all when key is set to start. Starter not making any sound. Any ideas? Have check the batterys, cleaned the battery termals, fues checked ok and reseated all relays in the engine bay. I suspect something electrical has gone wrong as the blower fan does not come on nor the "wait to start" indicator lamp. Radio does play and some of the warning lights (such as water in fuel lamp and daytime running lights indicator.) Has been sitting for a week outside. Right before this happen, started it up, but the blower would not come on and the gear shift indicator did not light. Drove it around the block and parked it, didn't trust it for the trip that day. She has 118K on it, mostly highway non-hauling miles. Have owned since new. It does have AC, cruise, am/fm radio, automatic and normal complment of lights, bone stock. Any ideas? Don't want to be taken at the dealership when it gets towend in. Thanks. |

Re: 96 6.5L Diesel Not Starting
Im not a diesel buff, but it may be a glow plug issue.

What does 'Motor does not turn all the way' mean?
Ignition Switches are common problems, check the connectors. Could be a simple ground problem too.

Thanks for getting back to me. When the key is turned to start, there is no relay cliick, the starter does not turn. This is new, have had low batterys before and the starter relay will click. Not so this time.
Did switch the relays in the relay box under the hood. Same thing, noting! I can see the igniation swithch. But, at the kicker is the blower motor will not come on when the switch is in the on position. And, the 'wait to start' light not coming on at all. It ran fine up to this point. Radio works, wipers work, lights and horn work, so some of the grounds are good. Any other thought? |

Pull the Ignition Switch connector apart. Check for a bad connection. Then Clean thoroughly.
I have heard of this more than once.
