short thrower

i was wondering if installing a short thrower is all that hard. i got a b&m short thrower and was wondering if i should try it myself or take it to a mechanic? looking at the end of the shifter it doesnt look like it'll fit?..?

i figured i'd see if anyone else had given it a try. i've got the jack and 2 floorstands and figured it'd be a few hour thing to do on a saturday but wasnt sure if it was tough.

sidenote: i had my shifter fall through the floorboard a while back and had my mechanic fix it by drilling screws up underneath it to hold it in place...will that affect anything if i switch the shifters??

I'd think that the shifter would just slide into place...you might need to coax it a little, but then again I haven't tried it.

Ok, whats the advantage of a short thow shifter?

it makes for a faster shift. Basically it reduces the distance your shifter has to cover before it goes into gear...this way you get into gear faster, and get your clutch engaged faster...resulting in a slightly...and I stress the word SLIGHTLY...faster 1/4 mile time

pase setter has a short shifter for the MX-3 which reduces the throw 80%... you can order it through JCWittney

A Short shifter decreases the throws and sometimes decreases the height of the knob.

Its should be a fairly simple install, I doubt a mechanic would be needed. Or was the shifter not made for the car you're using it on?
