Dash "gear" lights out of sync i.e. P R N D 1 2 3

My '88 528e automatic has a prob with the dash lights displaying which gear its in (P, R, N, D, 1, 2, 3). "Park" lights up fine, but when i put it in "drive" either no light shows or the "neutral" light comes on in which case i have to tap the shifter in order to get it out of "neutral". Maybe something needs to be re-adjusted dealing with my shifter???

Thanks for any help

Re: Dash

Thanks 323... My display IS in the dash so Im going to have a look see when I replace nicad batteries to instrument panel. By the way, did you buy the "shifter display" new or, get a used one? Either way, how much did it cost???

The 'D' lamp in the cluster, being the most used, burns out. you can replace the light bar in the cluster OR if you have the time solder in a replacement bulb. Not much adjustment at the lever for your other complaint, the switches wear.
