Question LS/VTEC - Fast?

How much faster does your 1/4 mile increase with the ls/vtec. Because with all my mods i do about mid 15's. What do you think i will be doing with an LS/VTEC with all my mods and a skunk2 intake manifold?

-SOON to be "home made" turbo charging (goal = 12psi)
-GOAL = 250-300hp with stock internals(probably not reachable)

Re: LS/VTEC - Fast?

probibly about low 15's to high 14's.

thats a pretty fast car for having only headers, and exhaust. i had a 90' ls no vtek, with intake, and only could do 17's. but whatever. have fun!

Re: LS/VTEC - Fast?

I'm pretty sure you'll hit mid 14s or even high 13s. Depending on how you drive and the suspension set up. go to www.importreview.com

You'll get the idea on how much power it'll make.

Re: LS/VTEC - Fast?

12s is pretty fast for a allmotor street car. i would guess around 14s.

vtec allows more aggressive cams, which increase hp, but also allows you to idle at around 1000rpm and gives you low-end drivability. stock vtec cams are more aggressive then ls cams to begin with...

Re: LS/VTEC - Fast?

idling has nothing to do with it. It's because the extra revs, it allows you to make, and a better flowing head. more air = more power

actually idling has something to do with it. Vtec alows two sets of cam profiles a low lift for low rpms including idling and a hight lift for high rpms. And the vtec system does not make power by just allowing the engine to rev higher, that is dependent on the intenals and head components, but rather vtec alows the engine to breath eficiently both at high and low rpm.

And again about the idle, if only the high rpm lobe would be used then the car would idle rough.

so a better flowing head and a higher rpm range....wouldnt it be cheaper to buy a new set of cams, valve set, and a ported head?????

ls vtec

I hope im not replying too late. If your going to build an LS vtec; from my experience you rather just have a gs-r. Keep the block stock, port and polish the head, place a pair of civic type r cams along with some skunk2 cam gears, jdm type r headers, skunk2 manifold (port-match), str throttle body, iceman intake, and a 99 si tranny. If you can get a type r, its even better. This set up is perfect for daily driving. LS vtec aren't that reliable. I've always had problems with them. By the way if you build an LS vtec; make sure your hook up your knoc sensor.

Learn how to build them, they are only as good as the builder.

I've been building motors for the past 6 years. My race car runs 11.1 all motor. So to hear from someone like you about building motors. You make me laugh. All I was saying is to stick to a stock gs-r.
