When to change timing belt?

Am getting conflicting guidance on when to change the timing belt on a 99 trooper. Dealer says every 60K, saying the $325 is "insurance against damage." Anyone have a recommendation based on wear data or specs?

There area reports out there where the T-belt looked like new @ 100K+ miles. I'd personally wait until 100-120K miles & then do T-belt, tensioner, water pump.
G/luck

The maintenance manual calls for 75,000 miles. Never exceed the recommended interval cause if it breaks, your out a lot of bucks in repairs. While your in there, change the water pump and don't reuse the same timing belt tensioner. The old one may look just fine but its life is the same as the belts and if it lets go then so does the new belt.

Re: When to change timing belt?

75-100,00 if you have a 3.2L v-6 I can assure you no engine damage will come from a broken timing belt nor should it cost anymore to replace it. One thing to keep in mind is that when you do get it done be sure to have the water pump inspected for leaks theyusually start leaking about 100,000 miles and also replace the timing belt tensioner(its a must) if it does not get done I can assure you it wont be long beforre you have to pay someone to goo back in and do it all over again
