Angry 2000 Solara Brake noise

I have a 2000 Solara SLE with 43 K miles. I purchased it in Jan 2004 "Toyota Certified" As I drive through a parking lot (cold) people all turn around because of the squeaking and squealing my brakes make. If I depress the brake pedal, it quiets down. Car seems quieter when it is driven a while (hot) Pulled the wheels off and can't find anything wrong. Pads are thick & Rotors are smooth.

Re: 2000 Solara Brake noise

You might want to check the shims on the brake pads. If there's an Advance Auto Parts in your area, they have a kind of high-temperature lubricant that goes on the shims and keeps them from making noise...I had the same problem with our Toyota plenty of times, it's really loud, and extremely embarrassing. You can get a tube of the stuff for a little less than $3.00 which isn't too bad. Works like a charm. I've used it, and since the first time, hadn't heard any noises since. Also, if you want to get something a little more reliable, you can go to your local auto parts retailer and purchase a new set of brake pad shims and switch them out with the old ones, that would also solve the problem.
