front suspension problems 96 neon

Hello,

I need some help; First off I am a novice at automotive work.

I have a friend that was driving my 96-dodge neon. All I have to go by is what she told me which I am not for sure it is 100% accurate. She said she was backing out of carport and was turning to back out when the front wheel/tire hit the carport support.

She drove the car for a day or 2 after the incidence. I finally got into the car and drove it. The steering is very erratic and jerky. So bad that is feels like the wheels could fall of at anytime. More that just being knocked out of alignment. In the few days of being driven the front wheels are ruined. The tread is very worn on both tires. Lots of steel bands are popping out.

The car has alot of miles and is my 2nd car so I do have transportation. However I would like to take this on as a learning project and get the car back up and running. I have jacked up the car and taken off the front tires. Did a quick visual inspection and nothing jumped out at me as damaged. Does anyone with more have any suggestions on what I should start replacing?

Re: front suspension problems 96 neon

Take it to have it aligned if there is anything broke or bent which is probably the cas they will be able to tell you It is hard to eyeball bent parts without an alignment machine.
