The no start in Rain thing

I have a 97 golf k2 and am getting the feeling from reading through these threads that the coil is a common problem with these types of problems. Now I just brought the car used and it is quite possible that it did this before I brought it , but I did just change the spark plugs, wires ,distrubtor cap and rotor so it may have been something I have done . I plan on going out and spraying the wires and coil with water to see if it arcs but I guess my major question is about the aftermarket coils and which ones I should go after , I am not really willing to shell out 150 bucks for a coil. any info on where to get the aftermarket coil would be great . THANKS

Re: The no start in Rain thing

Most aftermarket parts stores can get them for about $80.

Re: The no start in Rain thing

97 golf k2, standard, 4 cyl/2 liter gas

i had the same problem: bogging in humid/rainy weather, great power in dry weather. distributer/plugs/wires didn't fix it. got lots better after a new coil, then perfect after a timing adjustment.
