Is my car running hot or is it a false reading

Good, evening I have just purchased an 86 honda accord. Temp gage shows to be running on the hot side. Have changed sending unit, but did not change anything. Not sure it is actually running hot? Only one cooling fan comes on when running, but both cooling fans will come on when car is off. What is the next step. Thanks

Check and/or replace thermostat. Is antifreeze level proper, consider flushing and refill of fresh 'freeze. The one fan, two fan thingy is normal.
