Question 96 Regal Custom E20 error code on radio/cd

I just bought a 1996 Buick Regal Custom that used to belong to a little old lady. 29,300 miles on it and is cherry in about every sense of the word. Car has a AM/FM Tape/CD combo that has only played tapes or radio since it was bought. Today I played a CD which played fine and operated normally most of the day while doing some errands. Than at the end of the day when I removed the CD with the eject button I heard a click click click sound during the CD ejection and a few moments afterwards. Upon trying a different CD I would place it in, it would insert..and then an error code of E20 would come up along with the click sounds. According to a post elsewhere in this very nice forum E20 means"

"E20 : Focus Error Cause(s): The CD player cannot focus on the disc or there is an internal focus problem. Correction(s): Try cleaning the disc or using a new disc. Make sure the disc is loaded correctly. The road could be too rough or there is too much humidity."

I have not run on rough road and the humidity has not been a problem since I have tried this with the ac on and it is quite comfortable. But it still doesn't explain the click click click sound (sounds like the mechanism that moves the CD in and out of the internal tray. I have thought that perhaps since this device got no use in over 8 years that some of the internal components have succumbed to the Florida heat. Any ideas?

Re: 96 Regal Custom E20 error code on radio/cd

Try some of that canned air (duster) used for computers. That's a quick and easy potential fix
