My '01 CL type S vs SVT Lightning

I got my headers, icebox, springs and shocks installed last saturday before I went to visit my girlfriend in Michigan. The car pulls A LOT harder and I love the sound of the Icebox/Exhaust!

Anyway, last saturday night my gf and I went to see "Hero" and got something to eat after that. When we got home, I decided I wanted something. I crave those M&M browny ice cream sandwiches! We went to walgreens to get them and I jokingly said "let's try finding someone to race just to see how much faster my headers and icebox make me."

I thought she was gonna start screaming because she HATES when I race people! She sends me pictures every day of car accidents and people dying just so I'll stop driving fast. Anyway, we got out of her subdivision and I floored it and got up to about 85. She said "I feel like I was just on a roller coaster" which put a grin on my face.

So I was driving down 6 mile for about one or two miles and everything was dead. After a little while I decided to turn around but I couldn't make a U turn. I had to pull into a subdivison and come back and make a right. While I was turning right a truck was coming the same way in the far lane. I sped up a little just enough so he wouldn't pass me and then I slowed down a little. My girlfriend said "it's a lightning" and then I saw the SVT badge. I said "he'll smoke me, but I still wanna run him to see how fast I am" There was absolutely noone on the street. As we were aproaching a red light, I put it in neutral and revved a little and back to D5 (LOL) When we stopped, the guy (probably 25) started laughing really hard. He wasn't just chuckling, it was literally "HAHAHA" I turned to my gf and we both busted out laughing. I knew he thought he'd smoke be bad.

There was a few cars to the left and right and cars started getting behind us. When it turned green, he had a perfect launch, barely chirping his tires, but I didn't go at it hard because I didn't wanna make a scene in the middle of an intersection because I didn't know if there were any cops. He was about 2 cars ahead of me because of his launch and we went to about 70-75 and he didn't gain anything after that.

He slowed down and so did I and we were back to about 40 mph. I looked at him and he was looking at me. I beeped 3 times and off we went. I stayed in D5 (highway, gas saving gear) and we both went to 80 dead even before slowing down. I looked over to see if he had anything to laugh about and he wouldn't look over. By this time my girlfriend was laughing really hard because she knew he was embaressed because he was laughing so hard the first time, thinking he's the shit.

We got another red light and this time there were no cars so I put it in triptonic so I could get closer to redline. As it turned green he pulled a car on me right away, which I knew he would do (rwd vs fwd) We got up to 80 and he managed only to pull another half a car on me before we slowed down. I sped up to give him thumbs up but he was probably so embaressed that he wouldn't look over because his supercharged V8 barely beat my N/A V6. Next time he'll remember my xenons.

Anyway, I was REALLY happy with the result, I heard they run mid to low 13s. I'm hoping to run high 13s when I get my UR pulleys. Someone just dynoed their car with the same setup as me and he made 320hp at the crank and 240 at the wheels. Not bad for a 5 speed auto.

After all this, I realized how dumb I was for not using my stupid phone camera. I did get a 0-60 clip though, my girlfriend was with me in the car and it was going on a slight decline. I'm pretty impressed considering what my car is made for. He didn't have any passangers.

Re: My '01 CL type S vs SVT Lightning

the lightning is a mid-high 13 second truck depending on the year. trucks have a hard time putting their power on the pavement even though they are RWD.

good kill

Well my car weighs a little more than 3500 pounds, so it's nearly not as light as a civic, but it was a newer SVT, and I don't know how much difference my gf made, but it might have been a little closer.

And it was a loss

I think(correct me if I am wrong) from what I've read that most super chargers after 80mp lose power and don't breathe very well. From a launch the Lightening would take you but from a role on the interstate you would probably take him unless the Lightening had some basic mods like a pulley, chip, and intake. Modded SVT Lightenings are pretty wicked vehicles.

no weight in the back makes it hard to get traction also

He had a PERFECT launch, barely chirped his tires. I didn't even go at it at the start, that's the only reason he was ahead by a car right away.

1. your buddy didn't make 60 hp on I/H/E
2. you won't run 13's....high 14's if your lucky
3. 1 second in a quarter is a lot of space, the lightning could have raped you (don't know what happened there, shitty driver, car problems, not trying...ect.)

Sorry CL-s is quick but you are dreaming.

Actually stock, if he got a good launch, he would be hitting mid 14s. My guess is, if he went to the track, he would be pulling 14.2-14.5 The lightning is probably a hard truck to drive, as many have said, it has a light rear. I don't think it is a far fetched race. I also think that the CL has traction control doesn't it?

Edit: I forgot that he had suspension work too. That makes a notable difference in FWD cars, when you are launching and shifting gears. It's also saves a lot of weight...

Re: My '01 CL type S vs SVT Lightning

the svt lightning is faster, but yu have to consider that not every one know how to drive their cars. I mean ives seen people timing 15.1's with stock s2000' when the car is capable of 14.1's.

Never claim to have put Japan Domestic Market products on an American truck. People will laugh at you.

...and people already hate you for bringing back a 2 year old thread.
