Anyone know any aftermarket brake kits for the MR2??

Yea, I'm 16 and I don't know alot. I don't have a car yet, but I'm planning on buying a 91-95 MR2 turbo and swap in a JDM 3sgte along with a T78 turbo, and some other performance parts. I'll be likely to also buy an aftermarket performance flywheel and clutch, but those won't be too hard to find. My target level for the MR2 will be around 600whp without any nitrous. Now, back to the brake kit...anybody got any help?

Re: Anyone know any aftermarket brake kits for the MR2??

i think you had us all in shock with the 600whp.. its definately possible... but you havent driven an mr2 before huh?

anyway on the brakes.. its a hard one there's a few kits around, but not many... check the post on rotora... i found out Supra disks fit if you have big enough rims so i'll probably do something like that with some custom brackets... mr2 brakes are pretty similar size front to rear cause of the engine placement... so some kits upgrade the front and some the back brakes... and then the bias might be out... i have my idea about how i'll do it but each to their own i guess...

Re: Anyone know any aftermarket brake kits for the MR2??

1. Welcome to the board and please give people more than one hour to respond. Geeze, you think we are all just waiting here on stand-by to give you advice

2. 600 RWHP safely without Nitrous is going to cost you a good $14,000-$18,000. I hope you are saved up for that.

3. The OEM brakes with a set of Porterfield R4S pads is all you will need. I would getting the $20 Toyota caliper rebuild kit just to make sure everything is properly functioning. 93-95 MR2s have slightly larger brakes.

Thanx...I really appreciate it. I've been interested in the MR2 recently, like 4 months ago, particularly becase I dicovered that I could have a Ferrari F355 kit on it (yea, I like the looks of the MR2 too...so I can't decide whether or not to put the kit on.) I'm currently saving up, and my parents may support me with investing on a car. I don't think that I will be buying a car right now, but maybe in TWO years I will. I'm inexperienced and I plan to take an engineering course for University to help me.

Do any of you know how much space there is behind the seats?...I'm planning on setting up some ICE when I get this car, and probably one or two bottes of nitrous ...

Finally, do you have any tips or suggestions you can tell me?....I'd like to plan out on how much I need to save up for this project. Remember that my target level is around 600whp without nitrous. I'm guessing I probably need around....errr.....$35,000 for the base price of the MR2, bodyshop installation fee, aftermarket equipment, and stuff....not including insurance and tax stuff...

Re: Anyone know any aftermarket brake kits for the MR2??

sorry just saw again.... behind the seats theres ummm... not enough room for much at all... enough for the glass roof sections, and i've seen SMALL enclosure subs mounted there... but really if ICE is your concern get a different car... The MR2 is pretty difficult to set up for stuff like that, although like anything it can be done... Jeckylandhyde will be able to give you better price stuff than me cause i'm not in the states...
600whp is really huge... the engine can do it but you'll be rebuilding EVERYTHING! and the turbo you'll need will probably make it drive like a DOG...or even a pig dog... hmm i think you should probably have a drive of one and rethink your power needs...

Re: Re: Anyone know any aftermarket brake kits for the MR2??

Ok man. I think we need to take a step back for a moment.

If you're going to mod this first car of yours to crap, get a 91. They are the easiest to find.

There is enough room behind each seat for a 12" sub using a truck box.

Put your nos bottle in your trunk.

Learn about the driving characteristics of the mr2 BEFORE tampering with the car.

If you want a 600hp mr2, make sure you have a second car for daily driving, because heavily modding your turbo mr2 will bring a lot of downtime, and unexpected maintenance. At 16-18 years of age, I don't think you want this.

What do you want 600 rwhp for?

... why not 550 rwhp or 675 rwhp?

HAHA yeah i couldn't find anything in kit form from Brembo but they make lots of parts so you could mix and match....

i dont think 17" are really needed... hmm

Re: Anyone know any aftermarket brake kits for the MR2??

My point was it seems more logical to me to have a goal for the car rather than a goal for the engine.

I could careless what the HP number is I am making.
I am more interested in my 1/4 mile and lap times.
