My power steering loose power when the engine has low rev (idle) for example in a roundabout at 25km/h or at idle when standing still. Especially turning left. noise from steering as if trying to pass max turning. Anyone have a clue? Did top up level of fluid (didn't help)
Would appreciate help in troubleshooting. |

I just had that same steering problem fixed
I noticed the same problem on my tahoe, along with many others. Thank god i still have my warranty. I took it in and they had to replace the entire steering box. about a $800 at GM. Your mechanic can do it for about 500.

Sorry to hear that. I'm currently trying repeated flushing of fluid in power steering to clean and lubricate. My repair shop suspects stuck vents in the steering box. If that doesn't help we'll probably check the pump before replacing the works. Let U know how it goes...

Solution approaching
Steering box has now been taken apart. Parts from broken power steering pump has destroyed a teflon gasket and was stuck in a vent. Now we are trying to fing a new gasket (will probably have to get one specially made).
Added later gasket was possible to obtain. Now working fine with new gasket and pump! Last edited by Got_bosse; 11-11-2004 at 04:17 PM. |
