Spyder owners

Recently..

Hurricane Frances came threw Orlando and messed up alot of shizznit. I parked my Spyder on higher grounds in case of a flood. Instead, Frances decided to drop 16inches of rain (that's right, 16inches) on my car. The morning after the storm I went out to see if my car was ok. The whole interior was soaked.

Now when a normal rain storm happens, nothing leaks or anything. I drive in rain and nothing comes in ever. Do you think that the amount of rain that fell made the convertible give way or maybe something else... ?

Anyone

Re: Spyder owners

Hell, wind could have caused some twisting in the top to let rain in, the channels are NOTORIOUS for leaking anyway...it may have just been too much all at once.

Spyderman Lando is probobly right. It might have just been too much all at once for the car. My channels tend to leak alittle when it rains hard. It was probobly the amount of wind and rain made the top flex a bit but enough to soak your interior. If you dont get wet in a normal rain storm then I wouldnt worry about it.

How much water got in there? Was there enough to have standing water that could have gotten into the door? If not, then you'll be fine once it drys, but if it got into the door, you might end up with some electrical problems.

I parked it at the highest part of my APT complex. No standing water around the car, Just threw the roof somehow I guess. Behind the rear passenger seat, there is alot of water there though. I dont know how in the world it got there but I guess it will dry soon. My driver side floor was soaked. The front seats and rear seats were soaked as well. I bought damprid and stuck it in the car, seems to be working with the condensation. I'll have to get my carpets cleaned big time so I doesn't stick to bad..

Good to know it's common with Convertibles

Re: Spyder owners

i'm going to Orlando this weekend! my GF's family is out there and we are going out to thier Condo in Daytona Shores.

i was supposed to go for labor day but Frances went instead, and we moved the flight's to this weekend before Ivan was a factor, and now it looks like we will scoot in there before he hits. www.weatherchannel.com is a great source for current visible/radar/IR sattalite pics. just look under the 'tropical' button on the top.

my car leaks like a bitch and if i was in your shoes i would have probably saran wraped the entire car. it's like a freaking rain forest when i drive in the rain, get it washed, or anything with water. it is the weather seals that go. because of the dry heat out here there is a bit faster weathering process for the seals. [at least i think that is why].

but if i lived anywhere where rain was present i would have sold my car by now. oh and from the dealer, a new weatherstripping job is like 1100 with labor... i asked...

Re: Spyder owners

Damn man that really sucks. I would seriously find a storage place for the car for hurricanes, I am not sure how well the car cover will work.

Re: Spyder owners

i think if you put a couple cans of scotchgaurd on the top & bottom of it it would do fine. but if a roof falls on your car you are pretty much SOL... LOL

Re: Spyder owners

So it's the channels i've been getting leaks through!!!!! lol I was wondering where it was comming from!!! So scotch guard will work and won't change the color or anything?
I'll have to try that out... i've called around but noone really knows what would work and NOT stain the top... Mine only leaks if it rains somewhat heavier... when I hit the brakes the waters come a rushin in on my left knee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting Spyderman..

My car never leaks when it rains. Just for this hurricane that just passed but, I dont think we've seen rain like that in 60 years so...

1100 dollars for a weathersealing project..? That's Highway robbery in my book. I hope it was just the high winds that caused all that mess..

Re: Spyder owners

damn ma brotha from anotha' motha'...that was not cool...how much for damages?

my spyders trunk area leaks. Its the little space where the trunk closes, the little crevice that goes around the trunk, where the windshield washer fluid topping up hole is located.the entire area gets flooded like there nothing there. and i cant find ANY seals that are bad...because there are no seals.
