Looking for MPG information

Hello everyone! I just aquired a 1990 Chevy 1/2 ton std cab, 8ft bed truck. It has a 4.3 engine with a 4 speed + OD manual transmission and no A/C. The drivetrain has 157,000 miles on it. I was hoping to use this for a commute vehicle on my 30 mile daily commute. The commute is 95% freeway and I drive 65 with no jack-rabbit starts.

Does anyone have any info on what I should expect for fuel enconomy? I spoke to an guy who had 1990 GMC with a 4.3, auto trans and A/C. He had 86k on the drivetrain. He was an older retired man that claimed to get 20/22 MPG as an combined average. He did have a soft cover over the bed which I think helped the MPG. What are you folks getting or what should I expect?

Thanks!

I have a 96 Z71 and it also has 150K miles on it. I get 19MPG hwy doing 65mph. I have a 5.7ltr and do not have any cover on the bed. I have true dual exhaust without the converters.

MPG info

Hey that's pretty promising information. So I guess the 20/22 MPG on for a 4.3 is actually possible. I thought perhaps I could get more since I had the overdrive gear. Thanks for the feed back guys! Anyone else have MPG info?

Re: Looking for MPG information

I wouldnt expect to get much more mpg that a 5.7 maybe less cause you really have to get on a 4.3 to make it move. My dad gets about 15-16 with his 92 extended cab 4.3 5 speed and I get 18-19 with my 89 4.3 auto. Funny thing is my 91 S15 Jimmy with a 4.3 auto only got 15
