1988 Ford F150 Ignition Wireing

My Good Friend has this 1988 Ford F150 4X4 with the strait 6 300. He was told the engine was rebuilt and replaced recently. Well the truck has a momentary rocker switch on the under dash that has to be pressed to start the truck. I checked the wires and all it does is supply 12 volts to the solonoid to let it start.

Now We want to remove this switch but the original wire to the solonoid is in place but is not providing 12 volts when the key is in the start position or at all for that matter.

Where do you think this wire has been disabled. I searched the trunk or wires under the hood and could not find anything out of place.

please Help.

Thanks

Re: 1988 Ford F150 Ignition Wireing

My 88 was the same except for the termination. My starter continues to crank after I turn off the key. To stop it I have to Pull the Battery cable. the starter solenoid on the fire wall continues to show a closed circuit allowing the 12V to continue turning the starter. It is intermitent but getting worse.

Re: 1988 Ford F150 Ignition Wireing

i have this problem on my 87 f150 4xx4 4.9L flat 6
i have to push in a white plastic peice attached to a wiring box just beside the clutch pedal or it won't start. I think it broke off of the white plastic rod that is attached to the clutch pedal that goes in and out when you depress the clutch.
I found a similar post for a 96 ranger i think
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...=clutch+bypass

on my truck the wires attached to this area are two blue and red and one black and one red wire. by the sounds of it I need to splice two of these together to over-ride the clutch starter nuetral safety switch. I would like to know for sure which of these I should splice and if that is the right thing to do before I go ahead and get blown fuses problems etc. let me know if anyone figures it out for the 87 f150 thanks
