Alarm going off when hooking up new batt

My battery died in my Camry. I charged it with jumper cables but it died when I went to start it a few hours later. So, I bought a new battery and when I hook it up the alarm goes off. It'll start honking if both terminals are hooked up. Help please this really sucks.

Let the alarm go off - just deactivate it with whatever you do normally (start the engine, whatever).

I must be missing something here.

The alarm is supposed to do this...it happens every time the alarm is activated prior to the disconnection of the battery.

I think it would be a better idea for it to go off if you try to disconnect (steal) the battery instead of hook it up.

Some alarms do this no matter if the alarm was active prior to the disconnection of power. Not sure why but they do. You just need to disarm it by normal means after it starts going off like unlocking the driver's door with the key if it is OEM or using the remote or valet switch if it is aftermarket.

Re: Alarm going off when hooking up new batt

I had exactly the same experience when I went out to replace my old battery. You must use the valet settings of the alarm before you get the battery off because the alarm would go off and you cannot use your remote to disarm it cause it does not have any source of AC to stop.

Then as soon as the terminals are off and the new battery in place, connect the the terminals and your alarm would once again be activated and gong off the hook. By then all you have to do is secure the terminals securely and tightly on the new battery and then use your remote to disarm the alarm.

You're all set then...
