2001 taurus water in trunk wheel well

can't fiqure out how water gets in trunk wheel well. I close the trunk and use garden hose but no leaks are evident. When it rains and I drive it water appears any idea's?

Try this...

Get a bunch of paper... pull up your carpet around the spare tire well, and lay the paper down everywhere flat all the way up to the back seat, from side to side... overlapping is ok to make it fit nice. Then put the carpet back down(holds it in place)... Make sure everything is dry before doing this.

Next time it rains, go back there and see if there are any water trails on the paper, if there are, you should be able to trace them to the roundabout area where the leak is.

There is a rubber grommet on the bottom of the wheel well.
It is a drain. I am pretty positive when you drive in the water it comes in thru there and is trapped inside. I don't believe it is draining in there from anywhere as mine doesn't do it unless I have been actually driving in the rain.

Nothing will happen if you plug the hole. The hole is there so that when the body is dipped during the manufacturing process there is a place for the liquid to drain back out. Just use a good pliable sealant to seal the grommet in place. That way if you ever have the need to drain the wheel well for any reason (leaving the trunk lid open overnight when it rains, spillinf a gallon of milk or whatever, etc.) you can still remove the grommet.
