is this supposed to be this hot (exhaust)?

i just put headers, cat, and cat back on my car. i've noticed that the exhaust is extremely hot coming out of the exhaust. i don't mean like "wow that's hot", i mean like seriously burn the ^%$# out your hand hot. the outside of the tip is hot enought to sizzle and deflect any water that even comes close to it even after it sits for a few minutes. it is supposed to be this hot? does this also mean i'm running either to rich or lean? any info is helpful. thanks

Re: is this supposed to be this hot (exhaust)?

one of my friends was walking around the car checking it out and the exhaust gasses reached his leg making his jump back. he commented on how hot it was so i checked it out. i then turned the car off for a few minutes and even dropped some water on it to see the reaction. although, feel free to come over and grab it if you'd like though.

Re: is this supposed to be this hot (exhaust)?

Running lean would make the exhaust that hot. And it is not a good thing either. I suggest an EGT, not A/F gauge (just blinky lights) to give you a more consistent readout of your exhaust temps. Also, the EGT is able to give you your A/F's, just not like 12.5:1, 12.0:1; but more in temps. The lower the EGt, the richer you are running and the higher, the more lean you are running.

so where exactly does the exhaust temp fit as far as testing is concerned? guess i should probably get that e-manage and tune done pretty quick.

Re: is this supposed to be this hot (exhaust)?

ur headers will change like that in most cases. if u ever had a performance quad or motorcycle you'd notice that right away when u put on an aftermarket pipe. one way to stop that is to clean it with windex. i dont know exactly what it does but it sure works. as for your high temps... u might want to see if ur cat is still good. that might be the problem. then again... just go to your dealership. most of those guys have been screwing with cars since they were old enough to pick up a screw driver.
