how much would YOU pay?

Im going to be selling my prelude and I want to know how much I can get for it. it is a 98 SH.... but it has a JDM OBD1 H22A in it mated to a H23 tranny. Has spoon mapped ECU, AEM short ram intake, AEM fuel rail, small dent in the hood - needs tires soon... 71k miles... car has alot of potential. I need a realistic number on what I can get for it... i looked on KBB.com for the private party value with the stock motor and in decent shape and it came to $10k. i know the value will be lowered a bit with the JDM motor... but you would think someone would actually pay more for that. I need to have this car sold by like November 1st. There are a few things wrong but they will be taken care of by then - just a few minor wiring issues and a wheel problem that I am fixing by replacing the wheel hub / bearing / lug studs. the new motor only has 35k miles, and the tranny has 60k or so... oh - also has a brand new clutch / distributor / spark plugs / vacuum connections / engine wiring

Re: how much would YOU pay?

h23 tranny cuz it isn't much different and it was cheaper. you also make it sound like the car is a POS... lol "Sell it to some high school kid - they don't know any better".... its a good car... just needs to be finished. I had it running but the wheel is having an issue which i am going to fix... and the wiring has to be finished up along with plugging in the new ECU...

Re: how much would YOU pay?

no no no no, you misunderstood me, or i came across unclearly.

the reason i said sell it to some high school kid is because a lot of the time, they are highly uneducated and will dish out more money than someone older. NOT ALL high school kids are like that, in case some high school kid gets offended now, but some guy might just dish out more simply because it has an h22 instead of considering the other flaws (i.e. dents, lude weight, etc.) adults will consider the fact that the performance parts probably mean lots of racing. a high school kid probably won't care. the younger demographic is...well...not as smart as the older one. marketing firms know that very well, now you do too

Re: how much would YOU pay?

good answer so i should target the younger crowd with mommy and daddys money.... good call. not as easy to do though... and also i was just looking for a ballpark price figure that i could get for the car... can i get $8500 for it? cuz thats what I owe.

Like, for instance.... if i posted it on ebay... what would it run up to.

Re: how much would YOU pay?

umm... tell me this... how the HELL would that cause problems later on? the H23 tranny has the same bolt pattern / housing / etc.. just a slight difference in gearing. the problematic ATTS is gone... the car is more reliable now then it was before.
If you wanna know the truth... i wouldn't even SELL you the car. you obviously don't know enough about the car for me to trust you with it. It has sentimental value to me because i put so much time / research / effort / blood into that car. The only reason i AM selling it is because I am moving to California and can't afford to take it with me. For you to tell me that the car is only worth 6-7k is an insult to me and my work on the car. Think before you speak.

Re: how much would YOU pay?

Yeah, that was retarded, you can definitely get $8500 for the car without a problem. I'd say no less than $9000. The best thing to do when selling is to shoot high and then get an offer that is more around what you want. (i.e. say 10K or best offer and then take an $8500 offer)

Re: how much would YOU pay?

for sure, you shouldn't loose money on the car. i paid 10k for a 97 with 97k. thats literally blue book price. you shouldn't have any problem selling it for 7-9k

Re: how much would YOU pay?

ummm... the car has NEVER been raced.... ATTS being gone is a GOOD thing..... fewer moving parts... and the H23 is almost the same. - like i said - the only difference is gearing because of the non-vtec of the h23. AND I'M NOT IN CALIFORNIA!. i'm in Florida/Georgia... where that would RAISE the value to most ppl because the work they were going to do is already done. I don't need some snot-nosed kid with almost no LIFE experience telling me what my car is worth. i wanted EDUCATED decisions. I wasn't asking for the value of the car in stock form in perfect condition... that value is closer to 13k. IM ASKING 10 K!.... on my first post i said the value was 10k in decent condition which means (HAS SOME ISSUES). THANK YOU for wasting my time, BUDDY! (not BUDDIE)

Re: how much would YOU pay?

I agree with Sballerk... Second engine, no ATTS, obviously some things have gone wrong with this car, you have even said that yourself, and there is still an existing issue with it. I mean, do you think someone wants to spend 10 thousand dollars!! on a car that could potentially give them a lot of problems. I mean, if your car was on its first motor, had a H22 tranny, still had ATTS, and no other problems, you are looking at 10-12k. But with the history of your car, from what you said, and that is very honest of you, i give you props for that, it isnt worth more than 7 or 8 k in my opinion. Maybe its worth keeping.
