intake Q on a mk3 golf
hey vw fans...I am in the processus of intalling an aftermarket intake for my gf and came across this..
in the oem filter box..under the filter their is 2 opening..one goes under the intake manifold and the other goes into the fender...the opening are control by some sort of flap controlled by a sensor...my question his...what is the use of the one that goes under the intake manifodl...i looks like a dryer hose..can I jsut get rid of that... I would apreciate if somebody can answer my questions..I don't know anything about volks..if somebody has questions about mazdas I'm sure I can help them out

It is for cold starts, the flap opens to bring in warm air off the exhaust manifold. It allows the car to run much better until the engine warms up.

mm the hose/tube I was refferinf too is like a dryer hose and seems to route under the intake manifold and not the exhaust..I mean the exhaust manifold is the front right ? I don't have the car here so I can't check ...the tube is going to the back

I'm unsure of what year & engine you're even talking about. Probably a 2.0 though, the exhaust manifold is at the back by the firewall, the dryer looking hose shoud run to that.

ok I double checked that and indeed it seems that the exhaust manifold is on the back..it was a 97 1.8 8 valves...thanks for all your help
