School+Not so got grades=Pissed Parents

Fuckkkkkkkk.

Seriously...Im in my junior year of high school, and my grades this year are not exactly great. Honestly, I just dont give a fucking shit any fucking more.

I am not motivated to do well...honestly, I want to go to college, but I dont want to go there to further expand my education on the bullshit academic subjects.

Tonight my Trig/Calc teacher e-mailed my parents saying I have a 67 (F+) in the class. Why? Not because I dont understand, but because of my homework grades. Why arent my homework grades so good, because I just dont care. Sure I want good grades, but I have no motivation to do well except to just keep my parents off my ass. I do fairly well on all the tests, I just make little stupid mistakes.

So my parents get all pissy and tell me Im failing, that its not exceptable, I need to do better, and go in for extra help. On top of that, they want to see the effort. I ask how can they see it. They reply with the bullshit response of wanting to see me come home and study for a few hours doing practice problems. So now we have even more problems than the assigned homework, but less motivation.

With the proper motivation I can do well. Anybody see my hot rod? I have spent 1200+ hours on design, doing trigonometry, geometry, alegbra and other shit. I do well, because Im motivated. Keywords there.

You can only get pissy at a kid to motivate them to a point, then they just dont care. They could ground me from everything, and send me to my room every damn day through high school. Im not going to study...I will most likely sit around asking "Why the fuck am I here".

--------------------------------------------------------

Which leads to another thing...life sucks.

Someone who I had deep feelings for just moved halfway across the country. Another good friend is moving away. My best friend is finishing up his Marine training at Paris Island, and then will be deployed to Iraq this December. NOW I've got grades to encounter with...Just dandy. I know what I want to do in life, and I will do it.

My parents seem to have no faith in me. "Oh, I hope all your dreams and wishes come true". Awh, horse shit. Sure they hope, but do they have the faith that is needed...absolutely fucking not as it seems. Everything I have wanted to do in life, well almost everything, my parents have shot down and said I live in a fantasy world. I have achieved 99.9% of those things.

I'll continue this later, I hate reading long messages too.

1200 hours? That'd be almost 6 hours a day for 7 years... was that a typo?

The project started design and planning during December 2003.

Just do good in school. Before you know it you will be in college. This is your most important year of high school. The junior year is what the colleges really look at.

Unfortunately there's only 1 solution. Grow up. If you are going to do well, you must be self motivated.

As for friends and all of the other stuff, it's stuff you are going to encounter again and again through life. The one variable will be how you deal with it.

Harsh words, yes, but also the truth and reality.

Hope things work out for you.

dammit Grant, you got to say it before i could!

but yeah man i was like that in my junior year of high school. started to slack off and it was amazing that i passed with B's and C's on my report card. Colleges really look at this year man.....believe me, except for the scratchbuilt hot rod, and the friends deal, i was in that same boat. sure i graduated with honors, but i could have done so much better and i know that now. oh well on with life and yeah man i hate math too, so you're not alone on that one

I was the same way in my junior year. I eventually brought my grades up because I wanted to prove to myself that I could get my grades without my nagging parents. They yelled at me so much just for getting Cs on my interims that I didnt care what they think, they dont have any grasp on how hard it is to make straight As. They keep telling me that colleges will only accept students who take honors and AP courses, make straight A's, and are the presidents of a few clubs and/or captain of a sports team, and does several hundred hours of volunteer service. I managed to get all of them but the straight As, I got a few B's, but its not because of what my parents said, but that I want to look back and see that all my hard work paid off and that I did it all myself, because I sure as hell havent seen my mom lift a pencil or my dad get in that wrestling ring... it was all me.

You think trigonometry is hard. Try living on your own with naught but a high school degree. Sometimes passion and restlessness need to take a back seat to responsibility. There's PLENTY of time to build models and dick around AFTER college...

Re: School+Not so got grades=Pissed Parents

mike, i was a junior last ear, and couldnt care less about my grades. it all depends on what you want to do after school. for me im going to columbia in chicago for studio producing and they arent really going to look at my grades, its open. i said fuck it, im done, i want to enjoy my damn life. if you plan to go to some prestegious schools like university of (pick your state) then you are gonna have to get decent grades. so now i have no choice, its either columbia or a trade school, which doesnt matter because i want to go to columbia. i do kind of regret not trying a little bit harder, because i do not really have the option of going to a university. maybe i would have a chance since i took all honors classes but o well. do what you want man, enjoy your life

Re: School+Not so got grades=Pissed Parents

Good grades in high school are in the top three, if not THE most important thing for a college bound student.

however, I racked up 46 total days missed my senior year in high school, didn't go to first period for the entire second semester, skipped out of second whenver I felt the need, and just hung out in third and fourth. I had five A's on my report card- Band, Orchestra, Swing Choir, Jazz Band, and Concert Choir. My other three classes were F's. Biology (0% for three weeks in that class) Algebra 2 (about 50% all throughout the year) and Psychology (no idea what my final grade was)

I had the same reasoning as you, for the most part. i didn't care.

Now, at the age of 21, I own my own pizza parlor. I'm not buying a new car every month (nor would I want to), but I will be building my own house with my own money in spring next year. I will have the business paid off when I turn 28. After that, 850 dollars a month becomes pure profit (on top of profits we're already making)

High school had nothing to do with my current state in life. Psychology, Algebra, and Biology were as worthless to me as Calc and Trig and Advanced Quantum Astrophysics are to the standard student.

in the right circumstances, A college diploma can make life easier, and good grades are definately required for that- but with hard work and a little ambition, you can lead a successful life without a shining report card.

In the end, a report card is just paper and ink...it's no projection of the life you will lead.

I might be alone in this sentiment, but High school was a big joke to me. All it did was cram facts down the student's throats, so the sheep could regurgitate them on command.
