88 escort lx motor swap tips any one???

the 91 protege swap looks to be out of my price range... what other swaps offer at least DOHC and EFI for my 88 escort LX? I also want to know where to find some adjustable coil overs for that thing if possible...
323 gtx awd maybe??? lol

Escorts were not made by Mazda untill 91. So your First gen is all Ford, no mazda parts what so ever. So non of the protege or 323 motor's will fit the mounts.
There are no compatible DOHC motor's for that chassie.
I suggest a 1.9 HO GT head, with a 2.3 turbo computer and harness and a 1.6 EXP/Escort GT manifold and turbo, or the UK spec RS manifold with a T3. That combo can be good for 200-300hp.
