2000 Tracker, 2L

I have a buddy whos tracker crapped out. The shop says that it tossed a timing belt and the engine is shot. I thought by now Chev would have been using a non-interference engine? Is this the case, is the shop feeding him a line of shit?

You sure the 2.0 has a chain? I have a 93 two door Tracker 4x4
and I replaced the timing belt around 80,000 miles, which it has
107,000 now, but Im either selling it this week or trading it for a 2000
2 door Tracker 4x4 with the 2.0 engine. If the 2.0 has a chain, that
would be better. Anyone here have a 2.0 engine and does it seem to
be as good or better than the 1.6 engine? My Tracker has been
very reliable.

How many miles does your Tracker have?
Did it do any damage to your engine since the
chain broke?

I have the 2.0 and have no problems with it. I have over 73K on it know.

Great in the snow(but I need new tires)
Never really been "off-road" but in the gravel, dirt and mud it's great too.
(again rather not do it cause I need new tires)

I got my 2000 Tracker. Its a white 4x4. There is a big difference
from the 93 I had. The new one drives better, much more quiet,
and better ride. The 2.0 is alot quicker also than the 93 was too.
One thing I never liked about the 93 was that wind would blow it quite
a bit on the road. Cant even hear any wind noise in the new one.

I hope this reliable like my 93 was.

I have a question, how many gallons is the fuel tank on the newer
Trackers?
