Replacing rotors, needs advise

My 1996 Lxi needs its' front rotors replaced. The insides are warn not the outside, that's how I missed it. Is there any benifit to using the sloted rotors? Better for heat to disapate? They cost two to three times as much. (Note: I keep my cars until they are completely used up, but I do like to maintain them. The last Van I had for ten years. I gave it away in the end.) Any speacial place that I should buy them? Thanks, Richard

Re: Replacing rotors, needs advise

Slotted rotors do have some benefit for stopping power. They vent the gas to allow it to bleed out from under the pads allowing better contact of the pad to the rotor. They work well for high performance cars and would work on your van, if you use it to haul lots of heavy stuff or travel alot at high speeds. As far as other benefits, I really don't think the extra cost is worth the benefits you get. Put on a good quality set of pads, like ceramic or performance friction carbon metallic pads and you should realize similar benefits as having the slotted rotors. Hope this helps!

Thanks Dad for the advise. I priced all the parts and also checked on what it would cost to have it done. So I desided to have the garage that I have been dealing with for years do it as I would only save about $40.00 and waste a whole day of my time. But I had them use the better pads and rotors on it. Have to say it does feel about 100% better now and it stops on a dime.
