engine revs when idle"vroom..vroom..vroom"
my engine seem to have started reving when in neutral. this also occurs when ever its not given gas...aka when rolling with momentum in drive or reverse.
i just had the distibuter cap, coil, and sparks replaced a week ago...the problem started a few days later(dont know if these are related). I am not to car savy but any advise would help. i added fuel injection cleaner on my cousins advise but that didnt seem to help much. anyways before taking it to a mechanic and dishing out mucho dinero i thought i would ask and see if anyone had any ideas. thanks ahead...have a good day car: 1994 toyota camry...around 120k miles |

Did your "Check Engine" light come on? If so, look under the hood for a sticker that says that you are OBDII compliant.

My 2000 Camry used to do that until I replaced the PCV valve. It's a $10.00 item at Toyota, less at an auto parts store. It's cheap enough to be worth a shot. On mine, it smoothed out the idle better than it's been since I bought the car two years ago, used.

Re: engine revs when idle"vroom..vroom..vroom"
The PCV valve pulls fumes out of the crankcase and burns them. It is a valve to prevent air from entering the crankcase and causing trouble with the gas vapors in there.
The PCV valve is in the right side of the valve cover in the back. If you see the top of the engine where it says 2200, to the right of that is the hose than connects to the valve cover through the PCV valve. Pull the hose and PCV valve out of the valve cover, move the clamp up the hose with a pair of pliers and pull out the PCV valve. To replace it, reverse the above instructions. |

Maybe a vacume line was knocked loose when all of that stuff was replaced. Look under the hood while the motor is running and see if you can hear it hissing.

Also, some lines don't have vacuum at idle, only above idle - for example related to emissions canister.
