My truck (1998 GMC Sierra 2500 4x4 7.4L) has a place for a second battery. I would like to get a second battery connected, mostly to run my camper, but also for back-up. I have a hunch the isolation etc is built in. Where can I get info on how to hook up and use a second battery? The owners manual was no help, neither was Haynes.

Re: Factory dual battery set-up...Help!
I own a 1997 GMC 6.5L Diesel and they all come with the dual battery setup. The second battery connects to a block ground and the postive to the other battery. If you want the other battery to power only accessory then you will need to install and isolator between the positives of the batteries. This will allow the alternator to charge both batteries but not allow the accessories to drain the starting battery. I hope this helps.
