Hello fellows,
I have a 1987 230E and lately it has been smelling a lot like gas. I have checked all the piping and replaced the fuel pump but the smell persists. Any ideas? |

carb or fi? where do you smell the gas? I'm assuming you have fi, so here's what you can do...
1. Check the new pump, there could be a leak around the seal... 2. check for filter, could be clogged/ leaking. 3. Check the fuel lines again... (or what you think might have been the fuel lines...) 4. Engine could be flooded... When do you smell the gas? 5. Idle the car/rev it to 3000rpm (alt back and forth every 2to3 times) while warm in a place and after 10 min, check to see if anything leaked on to ground. 6. Are there any puter probs? The puter might be compensating for running to rich/lean...
