hey man, i checked up on that car you found. a VR4 is always a great car, but the Spyder VR4s are so rare, that usually when you find one, they're gonna be VERY expensive. So when you said you were gonna sell your SL and get a VR4 Spyder, i kinda laughed b/c there is NO WAY that you could sell an SL to get enough money to buy a VR4 Spyder.

So i found the one you were talking about on Autotrader.com. If you ask me, it either sounds too good to be true, or the seller is just a moron. I ran some pricing appraisals on www.kbb.com and www.edmunds.com to get an estimate as to how much its worth. If the car is just in Fair/Average condition (which it sounds like its actually in Good condition), it would be worth about $15,000! And he's selling it for $6,000......that just screams warning.

Is this the car you were talking about: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...or=&cardist=33

Here's what you gotta do, don't worry about not being able to drive a manual right now. Take the VIN number of the car (its listed on the autotrader ad) and run a Carfax Lemon Check. Simply click on Vehicle History Report just below the picture in the ad, and that will take you to a page, which says 'We found 27 events for this car.'

Now 27 entries into the DMV computer system is A LOT! Unless the seller registered the car each year and got it inspected 2 times a year, there shouldn't be 27 entries there. So pay the money for the Autocheck Unlimited, $25, if you are serious about looking into this car, and perhaps other cars (you get unlimited VIN number checks for 60 days).

I should have done this before i bought my black 93 3000GT base w/47K miles...but i was blind b/c i wanted a 3000GT so bad. Turns out, my car had a SALVAGE title! But there are hundreds of reasons that a car can be issued a salvage title, and privacy prevents me from searching for the reason my car has that title, but everything is mechanically sound on my car, so i'm not worried.

However...DO get this Autocheck, and find out what's up. If everything is fine on the Autocheck, then PM me or post a reply and tell me how everything is going. Then you might also want to ask the seller of the vehicle history, etc. But don't let on that the car is worth much much more than he's selling it for...just try to find the reason why his price is so low.

Good luck and i hope to hear back from ya soon.

Re: red vr-4 spyder

All that advise is good. definantly take someone along who can drive manual and get them to take it to a mechanic you trust and have them take a look at it, because spyders in good condition can go for over 40k, so 6k is unheard of. Learning to drive manual isn't that hard. I was in the same boat as you and hadn't owned a manual before my vr4. I had driven 1 or 2 over the years, but never owned one. I got my vr4 and drove it home 180miles. I did make a fool of myself a few times the first week, but who cares. You will learn, it's not that hard. Also one more piece of advice....I'd love to say that everyone here is fair and honest, but you never know who is browsing the site and so forth, so if you are serious about this spyder, I personally would keep the location and seller a secret. You never know if someone will beat you to such a great deal.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Red VR4 Spyder Its not mine thats for sale. Aside from everything else you'd check no a VR4, just run the top a few times as well as just the trunk lid. See if it sticks or whines when lifing the top.

I bought my VR4 and didn't know how to drive a stick until my first drive home. You learn fast.

Yea manual is easy, I just learned when I bought my SL at the end of last summer, just get out and drive lol, you'll know you have the hang of it (probably after a week or two) when you can sit on a steep hill and balance the clutch and gass withought braking.

Re: red vr-4 spyder

Yeah, those "too good to be true" deals are usually just that....too good to be true. They usually want you to put "x" amount down and will ship the car to you later. Be careful whenever you buy a car and make sure you check it out first.
