99 geo metro 2nd gear shift problem

On downshift won't shift from 3rd into 2nd. Will shift into 2nd if I hold the clutch in and go from third to first and then 2nd. Upshift is fine. Any ideas? Time to sell on ebay?

Re: 99 geo metro 2nd gear shift problem

Mine does the same thing. Will also go into 2nd from third if I double clutch on the downshift. I am assuming it is the synchros in the trany that are gone. Having had british sports cars, double clutching is just a normal way to shift and I just live with it. My car has 200,000 miles on it with no major work. It also a great opportunity to teach my young son how to drive a non syncro transmission.

Squarebush:
I agree with Dan. Probably synchros problem. You can do the twice clutching though.

2nd will eventually stop working though. You'll put it in 2nd, and it'll pop right out as soon as you let off the clutch. I'd start lookin for a tranny to drop in
