Re: SRT4 is it worth it?

Neons depreciate like hell, but the SRT-4 is pretty solidly built. Chrysler turbos are tough as HELL.

Re: SRT4 is it worth it?

Well, no one really trusts Chrysler/Dodge's reliability...and with good reason. Most of them are built like crap. The SRT-4 is an exception, a BIG exception. Take advantage of the poor resale value

If you can get a decent SRT-4 for 13,000 you should not pass it up lightly.

Just an idea...

If you are worried about depreciation, you might consider buying a decent reliable used commuter car, at a lower price, and then buy a second, used older car as a project car.

IE: You can take the depreciation hit on a new car, ...
or instead, take that "lost" value and pay for the project car.
Check Grassroots Motorsports Magazine, Aug 2004, for some ideas.

Re: SRT4 is it worth it?

The answer is NO. I actually own a blue 2004 dodge srt4 and have had nothing but problems with it. I also have 3 friends with '04's and 1 with an '05 each of us have mechanical problems with them. All they are is a money pit, they all start to have the same problem with the front cv axle, mysterious boost leaks, TPS sensors going bad and the wiring to them, suspension issues and alot of other bull$h!+. If you can find one with lower miles on it then you MAY be okay for a little while but anywhere from 80k and up, dont waste your time. ... after all, it is a Dodge. There's a reason why the srt4 is the cheapest high performance car on the market and the owners of them have found out that reason the hard way.

Re: SRT4 is it worth it?

I have also heard bad news regarding long-term reliability on the Dodge 2.4 turbo. Did that car come with an LSD? Regardless I would think its a generally disappointing performance car, the SRT's are usually just big motors without any of the other goodies that make a car good. Unless you're absolutely set on the Neon SRT4 there are cars that may sacrifice a little power but be much better to drive in the end - like a BMW 3-series.

Re: SRT4 is it worth it?

........ Really? I mean seriously? This thread is from 2004........ ITS 5 YEARS OLD!!

And in case someone actually still cares Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep usually builds good vehicles. The SRT-4 is the bigest pile of crap they've ever made. (well other than the Sebring)

Re: SRT4 is it worth it?

Nope, nobody cares. Everybody moved to progressive companies that don't source 15-year-old Mercedes platforms to build their 'new' product lines.

Re: SRT4 is it worth it?

A cheap fun car mostly bought by young male. Hmm, guess why it depreciates.

Do not compare this to other normal commuters. Yes a turbocharged front wheel drive car built on an economy car platform will depreciate faster than a expensive small car meant to be boring and drive to work.
