Security Alarm for 1994 Grand Cherokee
Hello all.
I've got a 94 jeep grand cherokee, and recently replaced my radiator. Afterwards, I noticed that my alarm kept being set off with the littlest of incidence. The wind, my sprinklers, etc..... It even drew the sheriff last night, at 2 in the morning. Needless to say, it surely has pissed off a few neighbors too. I've looked through the owners' manual, and couldn't find a thing on the alarm. I did find the keyless entry system, but it did not descrbice waht I needed. Does anyone know how to reset the sensitivity of the security alarm for the 94 grand cherokee? Thanks. |

Re: Security Alarm for 1994 Grand Cherokee
its probably the hood switch.since you replaced the radiator, the core support might be slightly off of its original position so the hood latch moved with it and now the hood is aligned slightly different.you can check this by arming the alarm and pushing on the hood to see if it goes off.then you can try to align it.or you can just unplug the hood switch.its on the rt fender.try that and see what happens

I would agre that it is the hood switch, it is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment, where the hood meets the fender, I had to tape a lil thicker piece of plastic against the hood where the the switch is b/c the plastic block wasn't think enough, and when I would set my alarm and shut the hood my sec. light would just stay on b/c the button wasn't being pushed in enough.

I think hood switch also. You can't just unplug it though. Mine corroded so bad that the spade terminal fell off. It is right next to the battery. Hmmm. The button must be functional when the hood is closed to show the computer a ground. Unplugging it won't work. My alarm kept tripping.
Got a new switch at the dealer for $4. BD |

GLASS.................I don't think ur problem is a bad hood switch, I think it is just that the switch is not pushed down enough. Try to take the plaster pusher block thing off and tape or glue a thicker piece of plastic onto it. ooo yea anyone have a 93 or 94 Jeep grand Cherokee with a 5.2L V8, I need a pic of the vacuum harness for the EGR Valve, Intake Manifold, Throttle body, Purge Solenoid, etc...... please if u have one send it to Joe at [email protected]

Re: Security Alarm for 1994 Grand Cherokee
Seems like I been having the similar problem -
only it seems worse, since mine goes off sometimes when im driving off, as it did couple of days ago, and it did go on a few times, as I was leaving the parking lot... (had to continually press the remote unlock) seems to me when u arm it is one thing but with the key in the ignition its something else?!?! (that;s the cream on top of usual stuff described above by others...) any ideas waht's my problem? any places besides the hood? |

nope, b/c the location of the Fuel Pressure Regulator (which is hooked up to the Vacuum lines) is located on the fuel pump module, and on the 93/94 it is located on the fuel rail, but thanx anyways.

Hey Everyone.
I'm new to this site and have been reviewing different threads for the past hour or so...and decided to join and kick-in my 2 cents! I'm convinced that a bunch of these similar threads have to do with a power drain and random alarm problems. My 94 GC 5.2L started giving me issues last winter and they went away all summer. Now that we've returned to the cold (I live in Northern Ontario) they're back! Twice this month I've gone out in the morning to a dead vehicle. Yesterday was the latest...I was able to hook it up to a spare battery. As soon as this is done the alarm system triggers. I try to disarm this by turning the key in the passenger door and it appears to work. However, when you attemp to start it the beast will fire and then stall. It needs repeated coaxing to keep going and idle and then it ran rough. This is probably the 6-7th time something like this has happened (only in the winter!). In the past it usually takes several days before the throttle response returns to normal. I also can't lock the doors and then unlock them with the driver's door; this always sets off the SOB alarm. Recently, my tailgate lock stopped working properly. I can lock and unlock it with the power locks from either door arm but can't do it with my key. Everytime I have to disconnect the battery to do any work the hard starting and rough running thing returns to make the next couple of days a real treat. Yesterday I had it back in the shop and my mechanic said that the battery was holding charge and that there didn't seem to be a drain... I've also seen, however, the symptom described elsewhere with the voltmeter dropping significantly when at lower engine reves, almost as if the alternator is bad (I don't think mine is, as this is the second alternator I've seen this with). The voltage drop on the meter isn't always consistent, either. I wish someone could help with these issues. I love this vehicle when it's working and am almost ready to give up hope. I put a new fuel pump in it recently because that's what the dealer said ...I'm $600 poorer and no further ahead! Any ideas would be great and I will post any ideas or solutions that are offered by my new service shop (no more dealer!!) Thanks, Derek. |
