Hey everyone. I've been working on trying to get a candy red paint job. I've applied gold paint to the ''subject'', smoothed it over with 1500grit wet sandpaper without going into the plastic and applied the paint. The paint is Dupli-color Toyota Medium Red Pearl. It has definetly brightened up the paint color, but, how much red should I spray, and if I've applied too much, what can I do to knock some of the red off without sanding? Thanks.

Re: Getting The Gold...
just add light coats until you think it looks good. if you add too much, in your opinion, sanding it down would be your best bet. you could strip it and start all over, but i don't think that's what you're looking for.

Re: Getting The Gold...
Working with candy is a "keep layering until its just darker than what you want" process. The reason you want it just a little bit darker is because you knock some off when you wetsand it smooth.

Re: Getting The Gold...
What if the paint is already smooth? Cause it is a little darker than I'd like, but wouldnt rubbing compound knock some of the red down?

Re: Getting The Gold...
Yes the compound would knock it down, then give it a throrough wash with soap and water about a week after curing, then clearcoat.
