WilliamsBMW FW24 SMS PE set

First of all, if this question is in the wrong section, I'd apreciate if the Mods were kind enough to move it to the proper place.

Second, I've search everywhere for a review on this set but unfortunatly I couldn't find anything. Only Enzo's set is reviewed...
I am only interested on the PE frets, but a review of the whole superdetail kit would be nice too. I guess it may be useful to other people.
So, I am here asking if any of you has ever used this set, and, if so, could you please tell me if it is worth it, quality/use/detail wise?
I'm planning on fully concentrating on F1, LeMans and some Rally cars, the main idea being to build just 1 or 2 cars a year, but detailed to the maximum. So, with this in mind, I'll start collection all the detail sets available for the models I already have, and this one is specially wanted

Best Regards to all,
Pedro.

PS- sorry about the terrible english...

I have the SMS kit. It is pretty good. I would rank it as good as the Enzo kit but without a CD. If you plan on getting one, I suggest that you get at least one more sheet of CF and the Lionroar set. Although both sets overlap, the Lionroar set has extra winglets and exterior pieces that the SMS kit lacks. If you can wait until Wednesday or Thursday I can post pics of it.

Re: WilliamsBMW FW24 SMS PE set

Your English is fine Pedro. And so is putting the thread here I think.

Have you checked out the SMS site, do they have the contents listed? They have some of the instructions available for download so that would be a good indication. If you still have questions I've got a copy of the set at home so will check it out for you tonight.

Re: WilliamsBMW FW24 SMS PE set

Thank you Nic, I would apreciate if you could do that. Thank you!

Phil, yes, I've checked their site, and I'm aware of the kit's contents. However, having read Alex's recent review of the Enzo set (that he's using here), I thought that this FW24 set could suffer from the same "problems", that's why I'm asking for you opinion.

I was just thinking if is it really worth buying the entire kit or just the PE parts...

Thank you!

Pedro.

Re: WilliamsBMW FW24 SMS PE set

If you are willing to spend the money I would say go for it. SMS did just drop the price to 65 so I would jump on it. The templated CF decals will save alot of time.

Re: WilliamsBMW FW24 SMS PE set

woooo 65 !!! although it may seem expensive, that is a complete package.

I got s27 photoetch set and sms template set. if you buy the templates, dont forget to buy extra cf decals you will need them trust me. SMS is not a complete template set.

Re: WilliamsBMW FW24 SMS PE set

After seeing that huge price drop, I ordered the whole kit! I never bought such an expensive thing modelling-wise! Now I need to start keeping myself from buying models for 6 months!

BTW, I never ordered from SMS before. Are they quick on sending the order?

Okay Pedro, I haven't used mine yet obviously. Given the critisisms of recent SMS kits like the Enzo and similar problems Privateer experienced with the Porsche 935 super kit, I too wonder if the FW24 will be similar

That's exactly why I started this thread. I wanted to hear everyone's opinion before I could make my mind. Too late now
I guess I'll find out for myself if it is really worth it....

Cheers for the link to my site saint

The set is great and well worth the money even before the dropped the price:O(

There are a couple of fitment problems with the PE parts but nothing much and its not worth worrying about.

The decal Sheets are crap I ordered another set because I have found myself making my own templates because some of the templates are a bad fit and a lot of things are missing.

So my only suggestion if you bay the set is buy another decal set and make you own templates.

Cheers Paul
